We are seeking a talented Senior Software R&D Engineer with a focus on geophysics to lead the development of next-generation tools that will set the state-of-the-art in the industry. We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative Software R&D Engineer with strong Python skills, extensive experience in geophysical data processing, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology. As a key member of our growing software development team, you will take a leadership role in driving the development of advanced software tools, redefining standards in geophysical data analysis through integrating modern tools into our data processing pipeline. You will collaborate closely with other R&D team members, contributing to the design, implementation, and deployment of sophisticated solutions that meet evolving business needs, contributing to a shared codebase that is fundamental to Ocean Geophysics’ efficient data processing pipeline. The successful candidate will significantly impact a dynamic and forward-thinking environment redefining modern geophysical data processing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Research & Development: Work with our multi-beam, side scan sonar, sub bottom, seismic and magnetic data processing teams, prioritizing and implementing features and methodologies based on both emerging industry trends and internal business needs. Ensure the continuous improvement and performance of our tools.
- Python Development and Innovation: Integrate modern methods including GPU acceleration, distributed / parallel processing and AI methods to drive innovation that can accelerate our data processing workflow.
- GUI Development: Design and implement advanced graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that improve geophysical data through intuitive user journeys that feature elegant presentations of big geophysical datasets.
- Scope Management: Understand each clients unique SOW and manage projects accordingly, including identifying and mitigating risks, issues, and scope changes as needed.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Provide technical leadership within the R&D team, mentoring junior members, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive and high-impact software solutions.
- Geophysical Data Processing: Lead the development of sophisticated tools for processing large geophysical datasets, utilizing and advancing the standard geophysical Python stack (shapely, geopandas, rasterio, etc.) as well as integrating with commercial geophysics software suites like MOGA SeaView, Montaj, and QGIS, SonarWiz, DUG Insight.
- GPU and AI Methods: Spearhead the integration of modern methods including GPU-accelerated computing and AI techniques into our software tools, ensuring they are at the forefront of technological advancements in geophysical data processing.
- Strategic Development: Contribute to the strategic direction of software development, identifying opportunities for innovation and ensuring alignment with the company’s broader objectives. Participate in the planning and execution of long-term R&D projects.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS.
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in Python programming.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders.
