ABOUT THE ROLE.

We are looking for a motivated and technically proficient Junior Software R&D Engineer with strong Python skills and a background in geophysics to join our growing software development team. Our R&D team is continuously developing new tools to support our business, and we are seeking to hire a new team member to gather and analyse user feedback, support user adoption, and to work flexibly to address business requirements as they arise through development of new tools and methodologies. This role is ideal for someone at the beginning of their career, eager to learn and make a meaningful contribution in a dynamic environment that will bring them into contact with AI innovation, big data processing, and professional geophysical data analysis. The successful candidate will champion the use of software to streamline our business, proactively seeking opportunities to develop new tools and supporting colleagues through to implementation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Python Development: Utilize your Python skills to contribute to the development and enhancement of software tools, with a focus on geophysical data processing, including the integration of AI algorithms and big data analysis.
Research & Development: Work closely with the software R&D team to prioritize and implement changes based on business needs and user feedback, ensuring that the tools continue to meet the evolving requirements of geophysicists in the company.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the existing R&D team, including those focused on technical software development, web application development, and AI methods, deploying user-friendly geophysical software solutions.
Geophysical Data Processing: Develop tools to process large geophysical datasets, ensuring efficient processing and analysis through standard software tools such as MOGA SeaView, Montaj, QGIS, SonarWiz, DUG Insight, and the geophysics python stack (shapely, geopandas, rasterio etc.).
GPU and AI Methods: Innovate to deliver the benefits of cutting-edge technologies, including GPU-accelerated computing and AI, to define the gold standard for geophysical data processing.
User Support and Adoption: Assist in driving the adoption of our geophysical software tools across the company, providing user support, creating documentation, and facilitating training sessions as needed.
Feedback Collection: Gather and analyze user feedback to help the team understand how the tools are being used in geophysical applications, identify pain points, and suggest improvements.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS.

Degree in Software Engineering, Geophysics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Proven expertise in Python programming.
Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders.
